The Cookbook Club meets once a month to share recipes from a new cookbook off our library shelves. September's pick is Baking Yesteryear : the best recipes from the 1900s to the 1980s by B. Dylan Hollis. A #1 New York Times Bestseller and decade-by-decade cookbook that highlights the best (and a few of the worst) baking recipes from the 20th century. Attendees who bring dishes will be entered into a drawing to win a copy of the cookbook to take home.
About the author: B. Dylan Hollis is a social media personality who has tasked himself with baking and tasting unusual recipes from bygone years. Born and raised on the island of Bermuda, he later attended college at the University of Wyoming to further a career as a jazz pianist and arranger. He stumbled into both baking and social media fame at once in 2020, when quarantine boredom led him to film an investigation of an old cookbook he had collected from an estate sale. Hundreds of recipes later, Dylan now entertains millions across TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram with his unique style and fast jokes.
Register for any of the recipes below or pick any recipe from the cookbook. We will email you a recipe and/or put a cookbook on hold for you. Please register so we know how much cutlery to have on hand. This event will be outside if possible, so bundle up. Only attendees who bring dishes are eligible for the prize drawing but anyone may come to the event and taste test. Please see info below from the public health department. Per the Public Health Department:
- This is a potluck event, the food is donated and shared, it does not come from a licensed kitchen.
- The library is not liable for allergies but all cooks are encouraged to bring an ingredient card with their food so we can be aware of allergens.
Disclaimer: We cannot guarantee that there will be gluten free or vegetarian/vegan options as attendees will choose the dishes they will make. We will, though, have individual meetings that focus on various topics that may feature these kinds of choices.
