Are you new to Tai Chi? Have you wanted or tried joining an established group, like the library's Advanced Tai Chi, but wanted more of an overview? Join Manchester local Susan Halpern, as she guides the group through the Bafa Wubu step by step. “Bafa Wubu - Eight Methods and Five Steps" ( 太极八法五步 ), was compiled by the National Sports Administration, from the Peoples Republic of China. Bafa Wubu is based on the “core commonalities of the five schools of Tai Chi” and functions as a “simple health practice” and/or an introduction to Tai Chi Forms.
Tai Chi is known to slow down the loss of muscle strength (especially in the lower extremities), as well as improving low extremity and joint control. All Tai Chi improves proprioception, vestibular functioning, and balance. As with most, if not all, Tai Chi Forms, including Bafa Wubu, can relieve chronic pain, provide clarity of mind, and improve relaxation, vitality, health, and quality of life. Form employs a more upright stance with small arm movements and short steps. The forms demand attention and stimulate good balance, attention, and stress reduction.
This series is 6 months long and is not a drop in. Registration will open on April 2 and will close on April 30. Join for the whole series as instruction will build upon itself. The group will meet at the library until the weather warms then we will move to Masconomo Park depending on the weather.
Please email mwillwerth@manchesterpl.org or call the library at 978-526-7711 if you have any questions or want to be on the list for the next Intro session.
